Quality
Standards
In 1992, PacifiCare of California became the state's
first health maintenance organization to earn a three-year,
full accreditation from the NCQA. The plan subsequently
earned a one-year accreditation in 1995 and a second
three-year, full accreditation in 1997. In 1999, PacifiCare
of California earned Commendable accreditation from
the NCQA.
The NCQA accreditation is a nationally recognized evaluation
that purchasers, regulators and consumers can use to
assess managed care plans. The NCQA accreditation evaluates
how well a health plan manages all parts of its delivery
system, physicians, hospitals, other providers, and
administrative services, in order to continuously improve
health care for its members. |

Strong, Stable
Provider Relationships
PacifiCare develops true alliances with health care providers
furnishing them with educational tools, training and other
resources, rather than just contracts. PacifiCare is committed
to developing long-term strategies for technical and information
system integration and capture of encounter data. PacifiCare
has developed strategic alliances with key medical groups
throughout most of California. |
|
| |
Comprehensive
Network
With a contracted commercial provider network of more
than 230 hospitals, 30,000 primary care and specialty
physicians, and 4,695 pharmacy locations, PacifiCare has
one of the largest networks in the state. Members have
the added freedom to switch primary care physicians (PCPs)
as often as once per month and each family member can
select a different PCP. |
